Which Golfer Has the Most Majors?

Cubby Bice is an experienced financial advisor who is currently pursuing a PhD in finance at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. In his free time, Cubby Bice enjoys playing golf.

Professional golf has four prestigious tournaments commonly referred to as the golf majors: The Master’s, The PGA Championship, The US Open, and The Open Championship. Former professional golfer Jack Nicklaus has held the record for most golf major wins for 36 years. Between 1962 and 1986, Nicklaus won 18 golf majors titles: six Master’s, five PGA Championships, four US Opens, and three Opens Championships. During Nicklaus’s career (which spanned 43 years, from 1962-2003), he also set the record for most golf majors second-place finishes at 19.

The only pro golf player who has come close to breaking Nicklaus’s golf majors record is Tiger Woods. Woods has won 15 golf major championships: five Master’s, four PGA Championships, three US Opens, and three Open Championships. Woods, who is still playing professional golf, last won a major championship in 2019 when he won the Master’s. He still hopes to beat Nicklaus’s record before he retires.
